HAZEL SACHAROWITZ

Hazel Sacharowitz is an experienced optometrist with more than 40 years of clinical experience and a special interest in low vision assessment and rehabilitation. She practises at the Low Vision Care Centre in Randburg and is Co-founder of the Low Vision Centre of Learning. A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Hazel has presented nationally and internationally and is committed to advancing practical, multidisciplinary and patient-centred approaches to low vision care. 

TOPIC:

Hazel will lead the Clinical Vision Track on Day 2, delivering a series of highly practical sessions designed to strengthen everyday low vision practice.

Beginning with Seeing Beyond Visual Acuity – Clinical and Functional Assessment, she will explore how practitioners can better understand the real-world impact of vision impairment. She will then present Refraction and Magnification: Clinical Pearls that Improve Outcomes and Prescribing Low Vision Devices: Matching Solutions to Patient Goals, focusing on practical clinical techniques and better alignment between devices, visual function and patients’ everyday needs.

Her final presentation, The Future Role of the Low Vision Practitioner, will explore how artificial intelligence, wearable technology, assistive devices and multidisciplinary collaboration are reshaping the future of low vision care.
