Cancer-Related Visual Impairment & Blindness

R195.00

This presentation explores the often-overlooked intersection between oncology and vision  — the impact of cancer and its treatments on visual function. Beginning with an overview of how cancer can directly or indirectly affect ocular and neural pathways, it examines the epidemiology of visual loss across patient groups and cancer types, from retinoblastoma and ocular melanoma to metastatic and treatment-induced complications. Underlying mechanisms, including tumour infiltration, paraneoplastic syndromes, radiation and chemotherapy toxicity, and late-onset visual effects in survivors will be discussed. Oncology-specific vision-preserving strategies will be reviewed briefly. Through clinical case vignettes, this presentation emphasizes the importance of early recognition and multidisciplinary care to preserve vision and quality of life in cancer patients.
