The maintenance of ethical standards ensures that clinical research has and continues to have a crucial role to play in the development of and guidelines for diagnoses and management of many human specific diseases and illnesses. Good ethics implies excellent science and ensures the safety of participants in clinical trials. Whether participants are healthy volunteers or from a select group of patients, their Human Rights remain an integral part of their identity and must be protected, along with their autonomy. Looking back, there have been some egregious transgressions, many perpetrated not just by the Nazi’s but also their alleys. As recently as 1971,”The Stanford Experiment revealed some disturbing practices and fundamental infringements of participants’ rights.
