Description

Deon Hattingh

My name is Deon Hattingh. I am an Optometrist that practices in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg.

I have been in the Optometry industry for about 12 years now. I started as a frontliner/assistant to an Optometrist and it was there that I was inspired to become an Optometrist.

I have a keen interest in active management of visual issues. Hence, I have an assiduous interest in vision therapy, dry eye management, because passive treatment is just not enough and sometimes completely ineffective.

I see patients of all kinds but have aptitude to work with children, especially those who face learning challenges. The fact that vision affects all aspects of development, is another reason I have a passion for children.

But make no mistake that I only see children. As an Optometrist we are in an influential position to improve people’s functioning and thus improving their lives. That is why binocular vision is so important to me in children and adults.

Dry eyes can make people’s lives miserable. And thus I do active dry eye management and continuously learn to improve my knowledge in dry eye management. Treatment such as meibomian gland expression has been most rewarding for me and has a transformative impact on my patients lives.
