Visual Field Loss – a Neglected topic

R150.00

This talk will guide attendees to understand the difference between eyesight and functional vision. Sight refers to how well the eye captures an image. Vision involves a set of skills that are learned and developed after birth to help children gather and process visual information.

Areas of functional vision required in the classroom will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on how different aspects of functional vision will influence a child’s ability to perform necessary tasks in the classroom, such as reading lines of text on a page, copying information, and staying focused on schoolwork.

Identification and appropriate referrals of visual difficulties will be explained. Observations of visual-related learning difficulties are essential in identifying and intervening in functional vision issues. Appropriate referral to the correct eye care professional requires a good understanding of the differences in the scope of visual care between eye care professionals
