Rafiq Lockhat

Rafiq Lockhat is a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience across clinical practice, academia, and professional training in South Africa. He trained at the University of Natal and has worked in major psychiatric institutions including Valkenberg and Lentegeur Hospitals, with a strong foundation in trauma, psychotherapy, and forensic psychology.

He served as a senior lecturer at the University of the Western Cape and co-directed the Bathuthuzele Youth Stress Clinic, a pioneering initiative focused on treating post-traumatic stress in children and adolescents.

Rafiq has held leadership roles within the South African Society of Clinical Psychologists and contributed to training and ethics oversight through the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

He is the founder of BWRT® South Africa and has trained over 2,800 mental health professionals in BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®, a neuroscience-informed approach focused on rapid resolution of maladaptive emotional responses.

His work focuses on developing efficient, scalable psychological interventions, particularly in high-demand and trauma-impacted environments.
